Mrs. Janis P. Lindemann was the organizing regent when our chapter met in the Ladies' Parlor, First United Methodist Church, to organize September 14, 1985.

In Washington, DAR confirmed our chapter October 11, 1985, and approved the name of "Persis Lovely."

The chapter was named after the wife of Major William Lewis Lovely, an agent to the Cherokee Indians in the early 1800s. In 1813, he was appointed the Cherokee agent in Arkansas and settled with his wife near what later became known as Dwight Mission, west of present-day Russellville.

Major Lovely was in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War and participated in the capture of Lord Cornwallis. Lovely died in 1817, and Persis Lovely died January 18, 1841, at the age of 71 years.
