CHAPTER ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Although we are a
young chapter, we have accomplished much:
-
The first
chapter project was the Heritage Room at the Pope County
Headquarters Library at Russellville, and our chapter
continues to support the Heritage Room.
-
The Pope
County Quorum Court recognized our charter member, Mrs.
Katie Murdock, for her volunteer service to the County
Library System, and
-
The Heritage
Room is named the "Katie Murdock Genealogy and History
Room."
-
To promote the
National Society's Centennial jubilee, we filled the display
case in the Pope County Library with items concerning
education, patriotism, and historic preservation.
-
Three members
attended Continental Congress for the 100th year
celebration.
-
A wreath
laying ceremony honoring Major William Lewis Lovely, husband
of the woman our chapter is named after, was held at his marker near Lake
Dardanelle. Members of Marie Van Buren Chapter
assisted.
-
We have joint
meetings with Cadron Post, General William Lewis, and Marie Van
Buren Chapters.
-
We present DAR Good Citizen awards.
-
We purchased a DAR
banner and Chapter Regent's Pin.
-
We toured the "Old State House."
-
We supported Bacone College and the Veterans Hospital.
-
Chapter members compiled and published the "1890 Pope County,
Arkansas Tax Records"; and
-
Our second publishing endeavor, "Will
Book B, Pope County, Arkansas" sold well, and
- A copy donated to
the DAR Library.
- Proceeds were used to fund our projects and
activities.
